Early release day next week….

Next Wednesday will be our first Professional Learning (PL) Day. On these Wednesdays throughout the year, students are released at 1:50 pm and teachers will use that time to collaborate with colleagues on strategies for increasing student engagement and learning. All of the PL days are listed on the school calendar that was in the packet and is on the website. PL days will also be listed in the newsletter. There is free after school child care available on PL days from 1:50-3:20 pm.  We ask that if you plan to have your student stay during that time that you let the school know by phone, email or note by Wednesday morning.  Please send your student to school with appropriate clothing and footwear to go outside and a water bottle.

Those families that pick their student up at school, thank you for your patience as you wait for students to board the bus. Even though it is the law to wait while the red lights are flashing on a school bus, that doesn’t make it any easier to wait at the end of the school day. And thank you as well for following the one-way rule in our parking lot.

Next Wednesday is also our Open House from 6:30-7:30 pm. Please come see what’s happening in your student’s classroom, meet the teachers and have a chance to ask questions. I know you’re going to like what you see. If your student is in the 5th or 6th grade, there will be a short, information session about the Nature’s Classroom trip in the spring.

Specials are in full swing: Art, Spanish, PE and Music are happening for all grades. Ask your student about what they’re doing!

Here’s a link to a story about questions you may want to ask your student’s teacher that I hope you will find useful: http://www.edutopia.org/blog/19-questions-for-parents-terry-heick
